According to our data, outdoor wall lights are the most popular style of outdoor lighting, and we believe it too. Walking down any street - rural or city - you can see wall lights on almost every property. Whether for a house wall, driveway, garage or shed, the range of styles is almost endless. 

Our outdoor lighting range is one of the largest, and last year we sold over 12,000 outdoor wall lights. As such, we know a thing or two about which wall lights to choose when and what to consider when making your selection. 

How can you determine if a light is right for you? 

1. Purpose - is this light for safety and security, or decorative? This will immediately rule out certain lights.

2. Measuring - Is your wall being mounted on a straight wall, or in a corner? Measure the space for mounting and the overhang too if required to ensure you have sufficient space. Once you have chosen a light we highly recommend re-measuring based on the specifications sheet.

3. Height and direction of light - How high up are you mounting the light, or is it supposed to light a specific feature? In general, lights mounted high up will need a light painting downwards to provide better light. For lighting specific features, a light you can adjust and pivot could be a helpful option. 

4. Exposure to the elements - is the light undercover or fully exploded? If exposed, look for IP65 ratings and above.

5. Property location - is your property located in a coastal area or particularly harsh environment? If so, 316 marine grade steel would be worth considering for longevity of the light 

6. Style - is your property modern or traditional? With so many styles in the market you don't need to compromise and it is very likely you can find the perfect style of light that ticks all the other requirements. Ensure that you also consider other lights nearby.

7. Sensors - a very handy feature, particularly if your light is for safety or security. Most sensors are motion-activated helping you find your way safely to the door and deterring unwanted visitors. 

8. Energy efficiency - if run costs and saving power is top of your list, solar will be the right option for you. However, if you're concerned about a lack of sunlight for charging or want something mains wired, ensure you select an LED light.

9. Replaceable globes - while LED gloves these days often last around 10 years, being able to replace the gloves without the whole fitting is a distinct advantage.

10. DIY or professional installation - any high voltage lighting installation requires a certified electrician by law. However, the rise of solar has allowed for more DIY installations since you don't need to run any cables if it has an integrated panel. We also sell 12v and 24v options too

11. Brand & warranty - perhaps the most important ‘rule’ when purchasing lights it to always go for a brand that is trusted and has positive reviews. As a guide, their lights should also be backed by a warranty policy of two years as a minimum.

Although they are all purpose in terms of applications, lights 1 to 8 are ideal for property walls, with lights 9 to 12 are good for both property walls and garden or driveway walls.

   With the in-built solar cells, all you need to do is hang the bracket and you're all set to go.    Simple, sleek and effective is how we'd describe this powder coated, IP65 rated light. It’s understated exterior makes it perfect for a variety of property styles, without taking away from the exterior of the property. 

   If you live in a coastal area, try the 316 marine grade stainless steel alternative from Pixel. It’s a very similar style up/down light and made for the harsh, salty conditions. 

5. Nordic Outdoor Wall Light in White or Black
   
   Timeless nordic style offering great value to money. The Nordic wall light follows the same classic up/down design but with a ribbed finish. This textured style is simple yet elevates the fitting.

   This is perhaps not the ‘prettiest’ light but it is one of our best-sellers and we personally love it. It has everything you'd expect from a Havit light - quality materials and craftsmanship, energy efficient and effective lighting.    This architectural light was released at the end of 2025 and is a beautiful fitting, best suited to modern, architectural and luxury coastal properties. The Ledge has a lovely matt finish due to its cement construction.

   The Essil is unassuming, effective and we love the shape of the light it casts. It’s subtle design means you overlook it during the day, and it comes into it’s own at night which is often what we want from our wall lights. 10. Fino Round Outdoor LED Step Light
    

    
    Eyelid lights are great for walls, be it a driveway wall or next to steps (read more about step lighting here).
