How we started
It started as a side project
The Lighting Outlet began in 2012 as a side project, back when buying lighting online was still new. Founder Mitchell Elworthy started with lighting that other stores had stopped stocking, and found there was always someone, somewhere, hunting for exactly that fitting.
Outdoor lighting took off first. Customers wanted wall lights, step lights and spike lights that matched, with the cable and connectors to run them, all from one place. So that is what we built, and it is still the backbone of the range.
From there the plan was simple. Stock as much as we could from brands across New Zealand and around the world, and make the website the easiest place to find it. More than a decade and over 500,000 orders later, that has not changed.

Mitchell Elworthy
Founder and CEO
Started TLO as a side project in 2012. If a fitting exists, Mitch usually knows who makes it. Dad of three and keen golfer.
David Metry
Head of Operations and Finance
Keeps customer service, the warehouse and the books running. Holds a Masters in Material Science and loves to travel.
Tabatha Marsola
Lighting Designer
More than 10 years across interior styling and lighting design. Cyclist, runner and bushwalker, usually with her dogs Ruby and Mj.
Fernanda Silva
Trade Manager
More than 15 years in lighting, over five of them with us, and there is rarely a product question she can't answer. Fernanda looks after our trade customers, and her garden.

Who is The Lighting Outlet?
We're an online lighting store, and thelightingoutlet.co.nz is our New Zealand store. We deliver right across New Zealand with tracked DHL or NZ Post shipping. Prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST.
Do you have a showroom?
No. We're online only, which is how we carry such a large range. Our team is on the phone on weekdays if you'd like help choosing.
How does delivery to New Zealand work?
Every order is sent with DHL or NZ Post, with tracking, to addresses across New Zealand. Prices include GST, so there is nothing extra to pay when it arrives.
Can you get a product that isn't on the website?
Often, yes. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo, and our team will try to source it. We also make LED strip to your measurements.
