Choose IP54 for covered alfresco areas out of the weather, IP65 for eaves, pergolas and exposed walls, IP67 for garden edges and steps that may sit in water briefly, and IP68 for ponds and pools. Mount outdoor strip in an aluminium profile, keep the driver weatherproof or under cover, and have a registered electrician do any mains wiring.
