Inground lights are supplied with a canister that recesses into the ground, so you cut or dig into the surface to fit them, easier in soil than concrete or metal. You must ensure waterproofing and good drainage. Most need professional installation, though some 12V options suit experienced DIYers.

Almost any solid surface works, concrete paths, gravel, wooden decks, soil and outdoor tiles all suit inground lights. The main requirement is that the surface is solid and allows for drainage.

Because they sit in the ground and can be covered by pooling water, inground lights need a high IP rating, typically IP67, so they handle water and moisture without failing.

Most mains-voltage inground lights require a licensed electrician. We offer some 12V options that an experienced DIYer can install. If you are unsure, consult your electrician or our team before buying.

Choose 316 marine-grade stainless steel, which resists salt corrosion and can be used in coastal properties without degrading. Note that all stainless steel fittings still benefit from a regular maintenance routine to stay looking their best.

Quality inground lights are built to take impacts and weight, including being trodden on. Many list a trafficable load rating (for example 500kg to 1000kg). For driveways, check the rating and choose a fitting rated for vehicle traffic.
