Choosing a driver and controller
Allow 7.2w for every metre of strip and add about 20% headroom. A full 5 metre run draws 36w, so it needs a 12v driver of at least 44w, which in practice means a 60w driver. Your RGB controller must also be rated for the full load of the run. For longer installs, split the strip into runs of 5 metres or less and give each run its own feed. Outdoors, use a weatherproof IP66 or IP67 driver and controller or keep them under cover.
Mounting and outdoor use
Mount the strip in an aluminium profile or channel, which protects it from knocks and sun and helps it last, with at least 13mm inside to suit the 12mm strip. Every cut end must be resealed with an end cap and silicone to keep the IP67 rating, and any outdoor joins should be made in a waterproof connector or junction box.
IP67 rated for outdoor use.
